POSITION SUMMARY
The Tree Inspector is a seasonal position that is primarily responsible for annual tree inspections on all public and private community places within the City under general supervision of the Public Works Director. This position will interact with the public, businesses, and other groups in a professional, courteous, safe, and respectful manner.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish a friendly and positive rapport with facility customers, vendors, employees, general public, and promote a respectful and friendly environment for all in the facility.
  • Performs tree inspections on all public and private community places within the City as required to identify and manage disease and insect problems.
  • Report any potentially dangerous conditions, accidents, and damage to the Public Works management.
  • Responsible for determining if tree(s) are diseased or hazardous, and notifying management of these trees.
  • Responsible for maintaining safety procedures and enforcing rules.
  • Responsible for informing property owner of diseased trees and follows up on tree removals and directives.
  • Oversees and conducts annual tree report at end of season.
  • Operates Public Works electronic platforms, such as but not limited to GIS, Cartegraph to perform tree inspections.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with general public and staff while displaying political agility and discretion.
  • Ability to follow-through with work assignments, provide self-direction, and maintain safety procedures.
  • Ability to provide good customer service skills to a diverse customer base and effectively communicate with customers, general public, staff, and others.
  • Ability to work independently, making decisions based on established City policy, standards and requirements.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written assignments.

 

Qualifications

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Minnesota Certified Tree Inspector License.
  • Prior tree identification experience.
  • Valid Driver’s license with good driving history.
  • Must be able to physically perform all essential duties of the position.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Cartegraph and/or GIS programs.
  • Able to work for 6 months, approximately May through October.
  • Ability to identify most Minnesota trees.
