Recreation Coordinators are needed to work in NOR’s Spring and Summer Day Camps.  The activities are for children ages 6 -12.  Participants choose between the activities provided daily.  The camps are weeklong sessions.  The Spring camp will be held March 25th – 29th with orientation on March 11th.  Summer Camp starts June 5th and goes through August 2nd. Camps are scheduled for Monday through Friday from 7:15am – 6:00pm at Greenacres Community Center.  The Recreation Coordinator oversees and/or coordinates the Spring and/or Summer Camp Program.  Will plan and implement activities for children 5-12.   Activities include sports, arts & crafts, music, cooking, games and much more.  All camp staff will wear camp t-shirts and name tags provided by NOR.

Examples of Duties

Essential Job Functions

  • Works closely with supervisor in providing on-site supervision of an assigned program.
  • In the absence of the supervisor, will direct the program staff, and/or participants.
  • Meets regularly with Recreation Supervisor as required.
  • Reports on potential or actual performance issues to the Recreation Supervisor
  • Coordinates, develops, and implements program related activities.
  • Coordinates and/or assists with program activity set-ups, take-downs, and clean-up.
  • Is responsible for the security of the facility, and the use of the keys and alarm code to open and close the program facility.
  • Insures employees and volunteers are professional toward participants, staff, supervisors and the public.
  • Provides information and assistance to participants and the public.
  • Reports accidents and unsafe conditions as they occur.

Other Job Duties

  • Recommends new programs or modifications to programs and activities.
  • Maintains check in and checkout procedures for program staff and participants as assigned.
  • Process registrations to include receiving fees, receipting and deposits as assigned.
  • Performs various clerical functions as assigned.
  • Maintenance of master calendar as assigned.
  • Assists in hiring qualified individuals, per District rules and regulations, as assigned.
  • Assists in program related training for staff and participants as assigned.
  • Assists in the evaluation of the work performance of program staff under their direction as assigned.
  • Assists with participant surveys as assigned.
  • Must maintain the required safety training designated for this position: CPR and First Aide
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Typical Qualifications

The following represent the typical qualifications required for this position and are dependent on the program assigned to.   Some programs may require additional qualifications specific to that program.
Training and experience: Minimum 21 years old; possess organization and leadership skills; and two years of experience in recreation or a related field.   Experience in supervising, instructing, teaching customer service, and using a computer is highly desired.
Knowledge of:  Developing, organizing, and coordinating the assigned program and/or activity.
Ability to: Must be able to accommodate the program schedule; communicate effectively and provide direction, instruction, and/or teach staff and/or participants; establish, relate and maintain good working relationships with supervisor and co-workers; work in close communication with the supervisor; interact courteously with youth and/or adult participants, parents, and the public; and understand and follow written and/or oral instructions.
Licenses and Certificates:  If the position requires driving, must possess a valid California driver’s license and driving record must comply with District safety standards.  Positions that drive a district vehicle require a DMV printout submitted with application and upon job offer will require a drug screen.   To drive a personal vehicle verification of current auto insurance is required upon job offer, and mileage will be reimbursed at the current IRS rate.
