The Training Operations and Campus Support team is looking for a Technical Writer / Editor to join the team through Seattle, WA.

This position will join a global team responsible for analyzing training requirements and developing training to prepare pilots for an initial type rating, training to supplement standard pilot training, and tailoring training to meet region and customer specific requirements.

Be a part of a global team of subject matter experts, instructional system designers, and technical writers to create new suite of competency based flight training courseware. The Technical Writer / Editor (Virtual) position will work with a global team to create and revise flight training courseware materials and supporting documentation.

This is a fully virtual position. The selected candidate may be required to travel occasionally to the Seattle, WA location.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Use your expertise to recommend technical communication project plans.
  • Collaborate with pilot subject matter experts and instructional systems designers to scope, revise, edit, format, and proofread an array of training materials.
  • Manage training manual content files to maximize data reuse in a specialized DITA XML publishing system.
  • Protect the integrity of pilot training manuals by enforcing standards, processes, and branding guidelines.
  • Devise strategies to tailor courseware to for regional requirements.
  • Coordinate critical stakeholder reviews of materials.
  • Assess the need obtain clarity and additional information as appropriate.
  • Conduct peer reviews for grammar, spelling, bias, standards, and accuracy.
  • Review comments and collaborate with teammates to reconcile conflicting inputs.
  • Co-create and revise flight instructor presentations.
  • Research and document technical information to improve established processes.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience
  • 3 or more years of experience in technical communication
  • Experience with documentation of technical requirements and processes

Travel:

Occasional travel (10%) may be required in support of the program and customer, or for meetings at the Seattle, WA location.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • DITA
  • oXygen
  • Adobe Creative Cloud applications
  • Aviation concepts and quality standards
  • Learning new software
  • Style guides, especially the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Multimedia development and technical illustration

Typical Education and Experience

Education/experience is typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 6 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Master+4 years’ related work experience, 10 years’ related work experience, etc.).
